Applying Mercy

Human nature would have it that we are all short-sighted about something; and so it goes without saying that we each have much to learn. But when it comes to problems among our members, does our focus remain on the mistakes of others or are we equally (or more) focused on how we can come up higher in our own love walk? Have we made room for other folks as well as ourselves to learn and heal from a challenging situation? Or is it so stressful in our ranks that there is no room for redemption & restoration even though we all know that mistakes will be made? Do we take turns running one another off when we become annoyed by someone or do we at least offer a hand of fellowship, a listening ear as well as a touch of compassion when issues present themselves?

Where does a soul go when there is trouble these days? Do we seek a solution that gives everyone room to grow, or do we take pleasure in “exposing” others while ignoring what we may have done to contribute to the stress of the situation? So many questions, yet only one answer….if we would receive it.

Humility & Love still remain the great goal of every soul; and from a position of “holding to mercy,” then healing and forgiveness of ourselves & others become possible, especially when we start from the perspective that “there but for Grace go any of us.” Jesus gave us more than one snapshot of applied mercy so we could see what is possible; and He also told us to “follow.” He left us with the strength and wisdom of His Spirit, if we seek it. Thus, we have what we need to follow the commandment to “apply mercy,” if only His desire that we do so, would become ours.

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:32 (KJV)
